Signature mechanic
Adept Arts levels empower every skill
The Captain builds Adept Arts levels with combo finishers, then spends them on whichever of the game's widest skill pool you slotted — heals, debuffs, revives, raw damage. The Artfully Adept loop revolves around charging Power Raise++ immediately after a finisher and weaving Reginleiv and Decimate between charges. You are the party's glue rather than its damage ceiling.
The Captain is a flexible unit that can be easily built to any position you like thanks to the variety of their skills. They can provide decent support, as well as deal a good amount of damage, but are often stunted by their low damage cap. While they can fall short compared to characters who focus on specific roles, the utility they bring makes up for it.— Game8 tier assessment
Support skills (passives)
Adept Arts
Skills are enhanced based on Adept Arts level. Landing combo finishers raises Arts level, and the level resets shortly after a skill is activated.
Adrenaline Rush
Greatly increases Power Raise's charge speed when charged immediately after a combo finisher.
How to unlock
Players may obtain Captain (Gran/Djeeta) immediately upon starting the game.
Strengths
- 1
Unmatched skill flexibility
Sixteen skills covering heals, revives, debuff cleanse, ATK/DEF buffs, Slow and Substitute — you can patch any hole in a party comp without swapping characters.
- 2
Excellent AI teammate and tank
The Substitute tree turns the Captain into a genuine damage sponge for the party, and Clarity keeps Regen and debuff removal up in Chaos++ fights that spam ailments.
- 3
Very forgiving inputs
No stance juggling or perfect-timing windows — combo finisher into charged Power Raise is the whole rotation.
Weaknesses
- 1
Low damage ceiling
Even fully built, the Captain's damage cap lags behind dedicated DPS; Game8 rates them C tier largely on this.
- 2
Arts level decays
Levels 3 and 4 drain on a timer and reset shortly after you cast, so downtime actively costs you skill power.
- 3
Jack of all trades
In organised endgame parties a specialist support (Cagliostro) or a specialist DPS almost always does the job better.
Gear
Builds by progression stage
Zegagrande Legend — Maniac quests, first Proud attempts
Your default story character. Run Armor Break, Decimate and a heal — the flexibility carries the whole Maniac grind.
Sigil priorities — Maniac
Damage cap is the only stat that scales here. Chase any DMG Cap trait you can roll, then critical hit rate, then raw attack.
- DMG Cap — on every sigil you can manage
- Critical Hit Rate — consistency beats spikes
- Stamina / Tyranny — cheap attack scaling
- Captain's character sigil (single-trait version)
- Potion Hoarder — more healing per run
- Autorevive — a free second chance
- Improved Dodge — as a secondary trait, not a slot
- War Elemental — the moment a Curio gives you one
Skills to run: Clarity, Armor Break, Decimate, Reginleiv — the same core carries all the way to endgame.
Gearing priorities
- Ascension or Stinger weapons, fully upgraded before you chase anything rarer
- Unlock every sigil slot via the Mastery tree, then Fate Episodes for the last two
- Any DMG Cap trait you can find — attack stats alone stop mattering fast
- Critical Hit Rate, Stamina and Tyranny to pad raw output
- Potion Hoarder and Autorevive so runs do not end early
Weapons to use
No Terminus yet. Fully upgrade whichever of Captain (Gran/Djeeta)'s standard weapons you can forge — the Collection Mastery passives from levelling every weapon matter more right now than which one you hold.
- Traveller's Sword — HP, Garrison
- Partenza — HP, Garrison
- Sword of Eos — ATK, HP
- Ultima Sword — Weak Point DMG, Break Assassin
- Albacore Blade — Critical Hit Rate, Critical DMG
Proud quests, Bahamut's Rage, Lucilius (Quest Zero)
Seven-Star Sword plus Beta/Gamma sigils. Lean into being the party's support so your AI DPS can go full glass cannon.
Sigil loadout — Proud endgame
When it comes to Sigils, you will want to prioritize increasing the Captain's DMG and DMG Cap in various ways. Beta and Gamma in particular are important, as they improve the Captain's Skill DMG Cap and DMG Cap respectively. They also provide DMG Cap , which should allow you to max the Trait out if you have the Captain's Terminus Weapon equipped.
Other than that, equip sigils that provide ATK and DMG increases , such as Stamina , Tyranny , Supplementary DMG , Berserker's Echo , and Skilled Assault . War Elemental is also good to have to ensure that your damage always counts as the superior element.
For survivability, Potion Hoarder and Autorevive are a must, especially in higher-level content. Getting the Captain's exclusive Sigils is also a must, as they provide buffs based on how high their Arts Level is.

Gearing priorities
- Terminus weapon, fully upgraded and awakened — Catastrophe wants max HP at or below 45,000
- Alpha+, Beta+ and Gamma+ from Lucilius drops for stacked damage cap
- Character Awakening+ and Warpath+ sigils via Transmute and Transmarvel
- War Elemental+ so every hit counts as superior element
- Supplementary Damage V+ and Berserker Echo+ to punch through the cap
- Over Mastery Lvl 3: Critical Hit Rate Up plus the Damage Cap Ups
Over Mastery bonuses
- Skill Damage Cap Up
- Stun Power Up
- Normal Attack Damage Cap Up
- Skybound Art Damage Cap Up
Once Captain has all of their Weapon Transcendance Masteries fully unlocked, he will have 80%-83% Critical Hit Rate without any sigils, traits, or summons. Therefore, they only need to enable one Master Trait that increases their Critical Hit Rate by 20% to reach 100%, which will give them more room for their Over Mastery Bonus.

The Seven-Star Sword is the Captain's Terminus Weapon and is the best weapon for them to use. This is primarily because of Catastrophe , which increases the Captain's ATK and DMG Cap as long as their max HP is at or below 45,000. It also has Regen for survivability, DMG Cap to increase their possible damage output, and Sigil Booster to further improve any equipped Sigil.
Chaos → Chaos+ → Chaos++, then Defy Infinity
Artfully Adept for damage, or The Substitute if you want a dedicated Chaos++ tank. Five basic-stat sigils are mandatory for the master trait scaling.
Sigil loadout — Fatebreaker
Captain's sigils in Endless Ragnarok center around their Master Traits. To get the maximum value out of it, they specifically need 5 Basic-Stat , 3 Attack , and 2 Defense or Support . This will provide them up to 200% Damage Cap , 100% Attack Boost , 6% Defense , and 20,000 base HP .
We recommend 2 Health and 3 Stun Power for their basic stat sigils. Equipping exactly one Greater Aegis boosts their health to 160–175k without disabling the Catastrophe Nova boost. For attack, always run Fatebreaker , Celestial Lumen , and Celestial Terra to raise their damage cap. Finally, use their defense/support slots for Improved Dodge (for better evades) and Steel Nerves (for damage reduction with Stout Heart).
Prioritize Supplementary DMG and DMG Cap subtraits to boost their damage, and fully utilize their Drive and Heart character-sigil. If you want to be more tanky, you can use Soul , but you need to sacrifice one trait slot for it. Slot in Autorevive , Guts , and Potion Hoarder for their survivability options. Quick Charge significantly reduces the charge time of their Power Raise.

- Transcended Terminus (T.Lvl 7): Catastrophe Nova, DMG Cap, Sigil Booster, Unbound Master
- While progressing Chaos, a transcended Defender weapon usually beats an un-transcended Terminus
- The standard template: 5 Basic-Stat + 3 Attack + 2 Defense/Support sigils
- Fatebreaker V+, Celestial Lumen V+ and Celestial Terra V+ in the attack slots
- Improved Dodge+ and Steel Nerves V+ for survivability that does not cost damage
- Summons for their traits: War Elemental, Stout Heart, Berserker Echo, Spartan Echo

Captain's optimal endgame weapon is their Transcended Terminus Weapon, Seven-Star Sword . It upgrades Catastrophe to Catastrophe Nova, which grants up to a 70% attack boost and 500% damage cap if their max HP is 200,000 or less . The weapon also features an innate DMG Cap to free up a sigil slot, Unbound Master to raise the damage cap further via Master Trait level, and Sigil Booster to increase all sigil levels by 1.

Captain's best Master Trait is Insight: Artfully Adept which enhances their Adept Arts level gain, duration, and damage cap. They also gain more damage on their Power Raise in exchange for higher charge time. They can enhance the cooldown and damage of their skills in this tree such as Decimate and Reginleiv.
As for their other Traits, prioritize getting Damage Cap for their chosen skills and Power Raise or Unique Attacks. You can also get reduced cooldowns , increased buff duration , and buff strength of their chosen skills especially Clarity. Make sure to equip one Critical Hit Rate +25% . It is also important to activate all traits that provide bonuses based on equipped sigils .
Lastly, enhance their non-Artfully Adept perks with traits that further increases damage and damage cap of Combat Healer and increase its duration too.
Execution
Combos & rotation
Captain Artfully Adept Combo (Endless Ragnarok)8 steps
- 1Cast Clarity immediately then dodge to cancel the end animation.
- 2Hold the unique attack to charge Power Raise to Power Raise++ then release.
- 3Use Reginleiv right after to deal damage then hold unique attack to do a Power Raise++ again.
- 4(Optional) Use a link attack or Combo A to reduce their cooldown a bit.
- 5Cast Break Armor then hold unique attack to do a Power Raise++ again.
- 6Use Reginleiv again right after to deal damage then hold unique attack to do a Power Raise++.
- 7Cast Decimate then hold unique attack to do a Power Raise++ one more time.
- 8Clarity and Reginleiv should be off cooldown at this point, therefore repeat from Step 1.
This is Captain's evolved combo once they unlock their Artfully Adept Master Trait to maintain and deal more damage at Adept Arts Rank 4. This also allows them to buff the damage of the party, provide Regen, and debuff removal with Clarity.
Their Combo A move can be seen in Captain's command list. You can do the move by using one normal attacks then followed by two unique attacks.
Arts Level Fast Charge Combo (Pre-DLC)5 steps
- 1Perform a full Basic Attack combo.
- 2Perform the Combo Finisher.
- 3When the Combo Finisher's last hit lands, immediately charge Power Raise.
- 4Once charged to a Power Raise ++, cast it to increase Arts Level to 4.
- 5Use your Skills once you hit Arts Level 4.
This combo allows you to quickly reach Arts Level 4, ensuring that your skills are at max strength. You can perform this combo before casting any of your Skills. Once your skills are on cooldown, you can keep performing this combo to deal large amounts of damage to the enemy.
Use Basic Attacks to Charge Arts Level
The Captain's main gimmick revolves around improving their Arts Level . You can do this by performing your basic attacks , with the full combo giving more Arts Levels compared to just performing the first few attacks.
Take note that your Arts Level will automatically go down after some time if it is at Level 3 or 4.
Maintain Arts Level 4 For Empowered Skills
Using the Captain's Skills at Arts Level 4 fully empowers them , either by increasing their strength or by improving the number of hits it does. To maximize the effects of your skills, make sure to maintain Arts Level 4 .
This is also important if you have the Captain's signature Sigils equipped, as they provide various buffs based on your current Arts Level.

Recommended loadout — Decimate, Reginleiv, and Clarity
Decimate and Reginleiv are the two core damage skills of the Captain. It has low cooldown, short animations, and deals a ton of hits and damage. Armor Break is their other damage skill in this build that inflicts a defense down debuff to help them or the party deal more damage to the enemy.
Clarity is a healing skill that is important to have to activate their Combat Healer Master Trait. It grants Captain, and their party Regen and debuff removal. Both effects are important especially in harder fights.

Percival will be your hybrid frontline using Molten Edge Master Trait build to deal massive damage with his attack skills after stacking Molten Edge. His primary skills are Zerreissen and Roter Wirbel to deal damage to the enemies. He uses Flammenmarsch and Träumerei to boost his attack and defense.
Eugen will be your ranged backline damage dealer using Flawless Vision Master Trait build to inflict a ton of damage with charged attacks and Detonator. His most important skills are Poison Grenade , Paralyzing Bullet , and Detonator .
Cagliostro will be your other ranged support using her Alchemedic Master Trait build to provide offensive buffs, healing, and shields for the party. Phantasmagoria and Reinforce are important skills to have. Pain Train and Alexandria are low-cooldown damaging skills that allow her to charge her Collapse quickly after use.
